Can YOU alter history?
WHAT: Axis and Allies 2nd Edition beginners/learners game! WHY: To introduce new blood to the game, and get my own passion for this game flowing again. Please note the house rules for this game, listed below. If you have never tried Axis and Allies, it is a great introduction to wargaming, a fairly simple game to learn, but with plenty of action and the opportunity to alter history. http://en.wikipedia.o... If you have played A&A before, you may find this game refreshing. We will adhere as closely as possible to the official 2nd Edition rules. There will be a time limit on turns, and scheduled breaks. Battle Boards WILL BE USED. House rules will be strictly enforced. If you wish to participate, you MUST download and read the rules completely: http://www.wizards.co... WHEN: June 28th 10:30 AM to 5 PM. WHERE: Chevy Chase Neighborhood Library 5625 Connecticut Avenue, NW (Nearest cross street is McKinley Street, NW) Washington, DC 20015 (202) 282-0021 (We will be playing on the second floor, in a back room behind the children's section. Numerous local amenties are within walking distance of the library. Breaks will be scheduled.) The Chevy Chase Neighborhood Library is 1 1/2 blocks south of Chevy Chase Circle at the Maryland border. Parking: A lot shared with the Chevy Chase Community Center can be entered from both Northampton and McKinley Streets, NW By Bus: The lines E2, E3, E4 along McKinley Street, NW and the L4, L2 along Connecticut Avenue, NW have stops close to the library. Nearest Metro Stop: The nearest station is Friendship Heights on the Red Line, a hearty 15-minute walk to the library along Western Avenue, NW and McKinley Street, NW. Alternatively, you can arrive at the Van Ness/UDC metro station, and take the L2 or L4 northbound up Connecticut Avenue. Metro Ride Guide: http://www.wmata.com/... ************* House Rules (aka: You can please some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but you can NEVER please all of the people all of the time. 1. Neither an Arrogant Winner nor a Sore Loser be. No gloating. No whining. 2. The host (myself) is the sole and final arbiter of any and all rules interpretations or other disputes. 3. Second Edition rules are to be used, and adhered to as closely as possible. You want a rules variant? Great. Set up your own game date. 4. BATTLE BOARDS WILL BE USED. This is non-negotible. I know lots of people dislike the battle boards. I don't want to hear about it. I like them, it's my game, they'll be used. Don't like it? Set up your own game. 5. Dice are to be thrown into a box provided. Dice that bounce onto the floor are to be re-rolled. At no time will dice be rolled on the table holding the board and pieces. 6. A banker will be designated by the host to handle money and the pool of pieces. No one else will touch this resource. Purchases may only be made during YOUR turn. Purchased pieces are set aside in a designated area off-board until it is time to place them. 7. No kibbutzing. No comments, advice, cajoling, noises, etc. during someone's turn. This game is intended for novices. Any player that wishes to have advice or comments may ASK for them, but the default rule is not to interfere. 8. A strict time limit on turns will be enforced. One of the weaknesses of A&A is that it can take a long time to finish, and that some players can fall into Analysis Paralysis. The exact amount of turn time will be set by consensus prior to play, and adhered to without exception. If a player is in the midst of an action when the time limit expires, play passes to the next person, regardless of what is unresolved, including placement of purchased units. Those return to the bank, and no refund is issued. Since opponents have discretion as to what casualties to select, it's conceivable that a player might "stall" this selection process, eating up an opponent's time. Stalling penalties will be imposed at the sole discretion of the host. Turn time does not roll over. That is, unused time during one turn does not become available during any other turn. A player may take all of his alloted time, or use only a portion of it, at his sole discretion. Play passes to the next person when the current player?s time expires, or he voluntarily finishes his turn. 9. Scheduled breaks will occur, including 45 minutes for lunch. Regardless of the stage of the game, it will end at the scheduled hour. Players wishing to record the game positions and re-set to finish on another date, will have the opportunity to do so. 10. The venue is a public library, in an area where children and their families will pass by. Profanity and excessive noise will not be tolerated. 11. If you wish to play, you MUST download and read the entire rules booklet before the play date. This applies especially to person who HAVE played before?..we will go by the written rules, not by what you remember from past games. Although this game is intended for novices, it IS intended for play, not lessons. You should have a reasonable grasp of the play mechanics, and you?re welcome to email me with any rules questions any time before play begins. 13. The game clock halts at the sole discretion of the host. Rough Schedule: 9:30 Library Opens 10:00 Library employees actually get around to doing their jobs, and open the door 10:30 Setup of game board complete. Play begins. 12:30 Lunch break (numerous shops and restaruants are within walking distance) 1:15 Play resumes 5:00 Play concludes Five-minute breaks will occur after each complete ?round? of the game. That is, after each nation has had one turn, a break will occur. Breaks can be waived, or initiated off-schedule by unanimous consent only. I would ask that no one join this game unless they are completely committed to playing right up to 5 PM. If you have something else on your plate, or you think you might get bored and want to bail, please don?t come. The game probably won?t last the full day, but you should be able to make the commitment. If interested, please send the following information: Your name Best email address and phone number to reach you Your experience level with the game Give some thought to turn length. Would 10 minutes suit you? Are you willing to serve as banker during the game? Can you commit to be there on time, and stay as late as 5:00 PM? Do you have a preference as to which nation you will play? Will you accept random assignment of nation roles? |
