Hi! I'm new to this group and would like to know what people think of Arkham Horror. The game is on my radar but it looks rather complicated. Any thoughts?

I used to play the original and it was much fun, I own though haven't played any of the reprints so I can't say it stayed as fun- though it likely has.

I've played it fairly recently, i think it was the current edition...The game's construction (board, playing pieces, money chits, etc) is top notch. The rules are leaning on the complex side, but not as bad as axis and allies. If you've played Call of Cthulhu rpg, you know what you're in for. If not, you're playing cooperatively with your other players against the game. Winning is definitely a team effort, and it is difficult, but it's fun.

I highly recommend it.

Played it once, never will again. Far too long for the amount of decisions/strategy. I don't mind long games, (I love Twilight Imperium, Le Havre and Descent) but I just found this one extremely boring. I also found downtime to be a problem, and we only played with 3 players.

WOW! thanks for the input! many and varried! I guess the best thing to do is to give it a go and then see. Does anyone have a copy? Would you like to bring it to the next meet up?

I like it, and my wife enjoyed it enough that she is willing to play it a second time.

It is a good game, but very complicated to learn. There are a lot of pieces to deal with, and the board requires management by the players (monster movement, limits etc). I have a few of the small expansions but have never used them because I think the base game is complex enough. If you like Cthulhu stuff though it is worth at least playing to see if you like it.
