"This is my first time hearing about it. It's like www.myspace.com. I find though that www.evite.com is better because it's private and well organized. What ever works and what ever makes the organizer feel more confortable and still get the same results, it's okay with me. I kind of like this weblink, and Meetup Group."

— Anonymous Meetup member (Jan 5, 2007)

About this Meetup

Welcome to the New York City Boardgames and Cardgames Group! We are the top boardgames group in New York City, and the top Boardgames Meetup in the world. All are welcome to join our pursuit of fun through boardgames and cardgames. Popular games that we've played have included classics like Boggle and Risk, card-based games like San Juan and Munchkin and German-style games like Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan. The options at each each event are up to you, and depend on what you and other members bring. So if you'd like to play something specific, please bring it with you and make a note in your RSVP comments; otherwise enjoy the potluck and share in what others list in their RSVP.

We meet at Neutral Ground, an accessible gaming space, on the first and 3rd Thursday of every month. The venue charges a $1 location fee and the space sells cardgames, boardgames, snacks and refreshments. There are additional events and venues per month as Assistant Organizers step up, which they frequently do. If there's still not enough opportunity for you to meet with similarly-interested folks, propose a meeting on our message board.

Wargamers: Kim was very busy with college, so no wargaming meetups have been "organized" in quite some time... If you want to take this on, please, contact Steef. Go to the wargaming page for more information.

Monthly Costs: Meetup.com charges the Organizer $9 - $19 month, so we collect a voluntary monthly fee of $1. David Greene, Mark Lentz, Jan Siwanowicz, and myself cover the monthly Meetup fees (a special thank you to Mark and Jan). With the closing of other groups like Euchre & Pinochle, we will try to absorb the runnoff. You can also join our parallel Yahoo Group: nycboardgames. If you would like to sponsor our group or know someone who might, please contact the Organizer, thanks!

We are also part of the New York City Guild on the BoardGameGeek web site. For more infomation on BoardGameGeek and the New York City Guild, including how to join them both (it is free), see:

I am sorry I have not learnt to play at cards. It is very useful in life: It generates kindness, and consolidates society. -- Samuel Johnson
